Relationship Requirements

  • You must demonstrate that you and your partner are currently living together in the UK.
  • You and your partner must both be aged 18 or over and must not have been related in the prohibited degree prior to your marriage.
  • You and your partner must continue to have a genuine and subsisting relationship.
  • You must obtain B1 level English Language
  • You must pass the life in the UK test
  • You must be able to meet the financial requirement

You must not

  • Be subject to a deportation order
  • Have been convicted of an criminal offence in the UK where you have received a sentence of 4 years of more
  • Have been convicted of an criminal offence in the UK where you have received a sentence of between 12 months and 4 years and less than 15 years has passed since the end of your sentence.
  • Have been convicted of an criminal offence in the UK where you have received a sentence of less than 12 months unless a period of 7 years has passed since the end of your sentence
  • Have been convicted of a non custodial sentence or out of court disposal in the last 24 months
  • Be someone who’s character or conduct makes their presence in the UK makes it undesirable to allow them to remain
  • Be someone who has used false information or made false representations or documents in support of the application
  • Be someone who has failed to declare a material fact in relation to the application

You must

  • Attend any requested interview during your application
  • Provide required information
  • Provide physical data (biometrics)
  • Undergo medical examination if required
  • Submit evidence to support your application including any mandatory documents as set out in Appendix FM-SE
